Light, Cold, and Missile Strikes: Expert Assesses Progress in Peace Talks

Political strategist Mykhailo Sheitelman said that while Trump talks about good things happening between Ukraine and Russia, and Putin invites Zelensky to come to Moscow, the negotiations in reality are going nowhere, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this on his blog.
According to Trump, the expert notes, very good things are happening between Ukraine and Russia. Often, he emphasizes, it was written that this was what the U.S. president said about the negotiations, but no — in the original statement there is no mention of negotiations at all. That means that “good things” are simply happening, for example, a strike on a civilian train that killed five Ukrainians and wounded many others, as well as the lack of heat and electricity due to Russia, and much more.
“You know, this is exactly why these negotiations worry me so much. They distract everyone. These words are attributed to the negotiations, and everyone forgets about everything else — about the train, about people freezing. Negotiations are happening somewhere in hot Abu Dhabi, and it’s unclear about what,” Mykhailo Sheitelman stresses.
As noted by Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Sybiha, the expert recounts, the situation has improved: the Russian delegation has stopped pushing pseudo-historical lectures at the peace talks in the Emirates. But this is due to the fact that there are now military representatives in the delegation — and they are not strong on the Rurik dynasty — Medinsky was replaced. Also, the expert adds, Sybiha stated that Zelensky is ready to meet with Putin to resolve the issue of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, and Ushakov immediately responded that Putin has always proposed meeting in Moscow.
“That’s it. Full stop. After that, all of Peskov’s statements about us moving positively… Where are we moving? We were at exactly this same point in September, when Putin said: ‘I’m ready to meet with Zelensky — let him come to Moscow.’ We were at this point in September, in October, in November, in December, and now in January. What has happened? Where is the progress? Where are these negotiations going? When a bottle of Coca-Cola is moving, I understand that it’s moving. But where are the negotiations moving? I don’t see where they’re going. I don’t see it. In my opinion, this little ‘Sunny’ locomotive is standing still, and it’s even pointless to guess on a daisy: will we sign, won’t we sign, will we stop the war or won’t we,” Mykhailo Sheitelman concludes.
