War on Two Fronts: Expert Describes Pressure on Ukraine in Negotiations
Political analyst and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko explained how Russia is currying favor with Trump so that the United States will pressure Ukraine into making concessions, and assessed how Ukraine is defending its interests under these conditions, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this on his blog.
“Medvedev was praising Trump and America as peacemakers. Medvedev’s statement that Trump is a peacemaker and that only he can end the war immediately spread through American conservative media. Fox News ran this quote, among others. At the same time, Medvedev continues to claim that Russia will soon win the war in Ukraine—something even Russian war correspondents don’t believe—yet he keeps feeding this nonsense,” Oleksandr Musiienko says.
In addition, he notes, Medvedev stated that they still have not found the submarines that Trump allegedly sent toward Russia’s shores in response to Medvedev’s own provocative comments about the risk of nuclear war. That is, the expert emphasizes, on the one hand he praises Trump, and on the other he accuses him of lying.
However, Musiienko observes, Trump likes hearing about his peacemaking efforts. In this context, the expert reflects, the question now arises whether a portrait of Medvedev will be hung in the White House alongside the photo of Trump with Putin—whom, according to the U.S. president, the world still has to reckon with.
“America will continue, I think, to put pressure on us to make concessions to Russia. It’s hard for us—we are effectively fighting on two fronts, and fighting on two fronts is practically impossible. On the one hand, there is the full-scale war and Russian aggression with strikes on energy infrastructure; on the other hand, there is the United States. We have been holding back this pressure for a year now, since Trump took office. I don’t know of another country in the world that could do this. Ukrainians are simply unique; this will go down in history. We are all doing a great job in this regard, no matter what, as we defend our interests under such pressure. And that is truly very difficult and very hard in this situation,” Oleksandr Musiienko explains.
