Elections and Referendum as Early as May 15: Expert Explains Under What Conditions This Is Possible

election

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko commented on a Financial Times report about preparations for elections in Ukraine and assessed how realistic this is and what would be required, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this on his blog.

According to a recent Financial Times publication, the expert notes, it appears that the United States does have a deadline and is pressuring Ukraine to hold presidential elections as early as this autumn. As he points out, the idea is to hold both elections and a referendum on a peace agreement on May 15, and President Zelensky is allegedly supposed to announce this on February 24, according to sources.

“In other words, elections and a referendum on the same day. People could be mobilized to participate in the referendum under the idea of holding elections to ensure a high turnout. This has been discussed before. Information from my insiders confirms that such a possibility exists, at least it is being discussed. That does not mean it will happen exactly this way, but it is under discussion,” Oleksandr Musiienko comments.

At the same time, the expert emphasizes that one must not forget that Ukraine is at war, and without a ceasefire and security guarantees—something both we and Europe are calling for—it is simply impossible to hold elections and a referendum. Therefore, he concludes, the United States must finally put pressure on Russia to establish a ceasefire; moreover, this would benefit both our defense and our national interests.

“Otherwise, achieving this will in fact be impossible. But this possibility is being discussed. Otherwise, the United States, as always, may tell us that we could be left without proper support, that we may face problems, and so on,” Oleksandr Musiienko concludes.
