“Let’s speak frankly, if all the masks are off”: expert explains why the U.S. insists on elections in Ukraine

election

Political analyst and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko commented on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s statement in an interview with Piers Morgan that the United States had raised the issue of elections, possibly in order to replace him, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this on his blog.

“Isn’t that so? Don’t we see America’s pressure? I spoke about this almost throughout 2025, especially since November, when those 28 points were brought to us—that in such a situation it is difficult to hold the front line, repel Russian attacks, and at the same time maintain a political and diplomatic stance. I can tell you that no world leader and no president has managed to withstand Trump for so long,” Oleksandr Musiienko claims.

Therefore, the expert explains, Trump does not like this uncompromising stance and stubbornness, although, if we are to believe The New York Times, Ukraine is ready to compromise regarding a free economic zone in the Donetsk region—that is, we are absolutely constructive in negotiations. Consequently, he states, the president is right to say that partners should clarify what they want—whether they truly seek elections or to remove Zelenskyy, which would benefit the Russians.

However, the expert notes, according to the president, if a two-month ceasefire can be achieved, he will speak with parliament about holding elections, since there is currently no consensus in the Verkhovna Rada on this issue.

“Let’s speak frankly, if all the masks are off. Why are elections needed? Because Zelenskyy is not suitable? He is inconvenient because he does not make all the concessions that might be desired and instead defends national interests? Or so that we begin fighting among ourselves here, so that internal destabilization begins, so that we weaken—and then it is unclear how all this will end? But the President of Ukraine says: ‘I am ready; no one is clinging to power,’” Oleksandr Musiienko explains.
