A lot will be decided now: an expert assessed whether we are moving toward a ceasefire

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko said that while Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin remain silent, preparations are underway for the next round of negotiations, and for Ukraine the main thing is not to lose the United States in this process, reports Politeka.

He spoke about this on his blog.

According to the expert, over the next three weeks the United States wants to bring the positions of Ukraine and Russia closer together. In his words, we are indeed seeing an acceleration of the peace track, which is creating significant pressure on Ukrainian diplomacy.

“A lot will be decided now, because spring is coming. It will become clear whether we are moving toward some prospects for a ceasefire, or whether we will witness another spring-summer campaign at the front, with enemy offensive actions that we will have to contain. The next round of trilateral consultations may take place at the end of this week, as I said earlier, likely on February 26–27. We’ll see. They (the negotiations) are among the decisive ones,” Oleksandr Musiienko explained.

Moreover, he notes, Putin remains silent, while the negotiations are being commented on by Sergey Lavrov and Dmitry Peskov. Trump is also silent, but he has Iran on his agenda. According to the expert, the United States is increasing its military presence around Iran. The New York Times writes that a military campaign could begin in the near future; this could involve targeted strikes against the regime or a larger-scale operation using more aircraft, forces, and assets of the U.S. military.

“Earlier, let me remind you, The Wall Street Journal, citing its own sources in Trump’s circle, reported that if the negotiations drag on and this current window of opportunity is not used, the American leader could allegedly lose interest in continuing further talks. For us, this is not a very desirable outcome, to put it mildly. So the United States must remain in the negotiation process,” Oleksandr Musiienko concluded.
