The claims that Putin seeks peace are already a year old – political strategist on Witkoff’s statements

Witkoff

Political strategist Mikhail Sheitelman said it is unlikely that Witkoff will succeed in the next round of negotiations, since he has been promising peace for six months and has been speaking about Putin’s desire for peace for a year.

He spoke about this on his blog.

“Another Witkoff fairy tale is beginning. And I have arguments as to why it is exactly that — a fairy tale. What is he saying? That there will be good news in the coming weeks. Notice, he’s basically Arestovych No. 2. Within the next 2–3 weeks there will be good news, because there will be a new stage of negotiations in 2–3 weeks, and there we will already agree on what will happen,” Sheitelman notes.

According to Witkoff, the expert says, he and Kushner want to present several proposals to both sides for discussion that would bring them closer together and possibly lead to a meeting between Zelensky and Putin, and even Trump. Perhaps, he suggests, some of us might have believed these words if we were hearing them for the first time — after all, in August of last year Witkoff had allegedly already arranged a meeting between Zelensky and Putin, and Trump told all the Europeans about it.

According to the expert, if Witkoff had been stringing Trump along like this over the construction of a golf course, the situation would have been different. For example, he argues, Witkoff would first promise to finish construction in three weeks, then in a month, then “any minute now,” saying he had already met 18 times with the site manager and trusted him completely, then claim the construction decision would be made immediately after the next round of negotiations, and so on.

“Witkoff’s first visit to Moscow was in March of last year, and for six months now peace has been promised as something imminent. And these claims that Putin seeks peace are already a year old. If this were a golf course, Trump would have hanged Witkoff rather than kept him in his position. In government, he keeps him in office; in private business, he would fire him on the spot. Do you feel the difference?” Sheitelman explains.
