“Destructive Behavior”: Expert Assesses How to Address the Problem with Orbán and His Threats

Orban

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko stated that Viktor Orbán is creating more and more problems, and that a special representative should be appointed for negotiations, or else one should wait for the election results, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this on his blog.

Despite low approval ratings, the expert notes, Orbán has grown bolder and begun claiming that Ukraine threatens Hungary’s energy system. Therefore, he ordered increased protection of energy infrastructure facilities and banned drone flights in the border region.

“This is nonsense. It is completely meaningless. Ukraine poses no threat whatsoever. But Orbán continues to play this card in his election campaign. Again, the way Orbán says and articulates this suggests that he may have indirect support from the United States. He often uses Putin’s rhetoric. I hope this is not supported in Europe. Or perhaps someone does like this rhetoric? Perhaps it fits into a campaign to coerce Ukraine into peace at any cost, through concessions and compromises? Pressuring the victim of aggression, rather than the aggressor, as should be the case,” comments Oleksandr Musiienko.

Moreover, he adds, Orbán says that the Armed Forces of Ukraine should not be financed and that their size should be reduced to a minimum — in effect promoting demilitarization, which is also what Putin demands. Thus, the expert concludes, Hungary has joined the pressure on Ukraine. Although it does not possess particularly powerful tools, it is blocking a €90 billion EU loan.

“Without a doubt, something must be done about Orbán. There should be a special representative for Hungary, Slovakia, and possibly other neighboring countries — for several countries in the region — to conduct appropriate cooperation and engagement, including through legal documents and through the courts if necessary. Perhaps Orbán will lose the elections and another window of opportunity will open, but we shall see. For now, this is destructive behavior,” Oleksandr Musiienko concludes.
