“This Would Not Mean Ukraine Entering the War”: Expert Assesses Whether Ukraine Should Help Arab Countries Shoot Down Drones

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko stated that everyone would benefit from the idea of helping Middle Eastern countries shoot down Iranian drones in exchange for supplying missiles for the Patriot system.

He spoke about this on his blog.

“Today, Ukraine is the only country in the world with serious and long-term experience in countering Iranian drones, successfully using various tools and methods. Among them are interceptor drones, which are delivering results. Interceptor drones are effective and cheaper to manufacture than aerial strike systems. Moreover, they are cheaper than missiles, especially air defense missiles. Drones can be produced quickly and on a large scale. In addition, we have many mobile fire groups,” Musiienko claims.

A missile, he emphasizes, costs $2.5–3 million, while an interceptor drone is significantly cheaper. In other words, Middle Eastern countries could receive many drones in exchange for a single missile. According to the expert, this is purely the financial dimension, but there is another perspective as well.

As he explains, if Arab countries are able to ensure safe shipping and protect their oil and gas industries, there will be no spike in global fuel prices, which would otherwise drive up the cost of virtually everything worldwide. Secondly, the expert adds, in that case Russia would not be able to profit from rising oil and gas prices, creating a double benefit.

“Therefore, in order to unblock the sea route, there could be a combination approach. The United States would ensure passage through the Strait of Hormuz with its ships and aircraft. There are already results there: one of Iran’s best submarines, a silent submarine, has been sunk. And we would provide air protection in exchange for partners supplying us with more Patriot missiles so that we can counter ballistic threats. And it seems to me that this would be quite good. And this would not mean Ukraine entering the war, because the Iranians are threatening European countries as well,” Oleksandr Musiienko concludes.
