The fight against Russia’s shadow fleet may temporarily be put on hold, an expert says about the events in Iran

Oil prices rise

The leader of the public movement “Ridna Kraina,” Mykola Tomenko, explained that the initial excitement over the U.S. operation against Iran has already passed. Things are not moving as quickly as they did with Maduro, and now we are seeing the risks, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this on his blog.

According to the politician, Ukrainians are people of the heart — emotional, romantic, irrational — and it is unfortunate that we cannot approach matters more pragmatically. He recalls that Vyacheslav Lypynsky once wrote that this is one of our biggest problems: that our heroes tend to be poets and philosophers, whereas they should be military generals and statesmen.

“Our heartfelt Ukrainian character showed itself here as well. On the first day, we reacted almost joyfully that our enemies were being bombed here and there, and that Russians and trendy Ukrainians suffered in the Emirates. Memes, celebrations. But by the second or third day, people started thinking: things aren’t moving as quickly as they did with Maduro. And people begin to think not only about the advantages for Ukraine,” Mykola Tomenko comments.

Therefore, he emphasizes, emotions must first be set aside — we laughed at the memes, but now we need to talk about the fact that the situation is very complicated and also involves downsides for Ukraine. According to the politician, this concerns oil: order has still not been restored in the Strait of Hormuz, tankers cannot pass, and prices are gradually rising.

“The fight against Russia’s shadow fleet may temporarily be suspended, since everyone is pragmatic and needs to make a living. If problems with energy supplies arise, then our concept of economic pressure on Russia through oil begins to break down,” Mykola Tomenko stresses.
