The U.S. Stabilizes the Market: Expert Assesses Whether Sanctions on Russian Oil Will Be Lifted

Sanctions

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko stated that the United States could indeed lift sanctions on Russian oil and might later pressure Europe to take similar steps, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this in his blog.

At the same time, the expert recalled that on March 5, Treasury Secretary Bessent had already said that the United States допускає (considers possible) the full or partial lifting of sanctions on Russian oil. Later, he continues, restrictions for India were lifted for 30 days. Now Trump says he is considering easing sanctions against certain countries in order to stabilize the oil market, and it is obvious that Russia is meant.

“Putin immediately jumped in and said: ‘We are ready.’ He stated that Russia—the world’s second-largest exporter of oil and the owner of the largest natural gas reserves—is ready to work again with European clients if they want to return to long-term cooperation. Russian companies, he said, should take advantage of the current situation in the Middle East, although he also noted that the price increase is likely temporary. Even he acknowledges that there should be no panic surge, because in any case either the G7 countries will unlock their strategic reserves or the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened. I don’t think Iran will be able to control the Strait of Hormuz for weeks, months, or years, but every day of delay affects the market,” Oleksandr Musiienko explains.

According to him, the situation may develop so that the United States will pressure Europe to at least partially lift sanctions against Russia. The pressure, the expert notes, could come through already willing players—Hungary and Slovakia.

“Therefore, America will now activate the Orbán and Fico factor. They will start writing letters, giving interviews, holding briefings, and raising this issue. They will show images of queues at gas stations and other things. They will escalate the situation to push Europe. America will partially lift sanctions—this is a plus for Putin—and they will need to pressure Europe to start buying oil,” Oleksandr Musiienko concludes.
