“We disrupted the enemy’s plans,” an expert explained Russia’s goals for the spring military campaign.

war in Ukraine

Military expert Oleh Starikov explained that Trump, by starting a war against Iran, disrupted the effect of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ active defense on the Zaporizhzhia front, but it was still possible to delay the enemy’s movement, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this on his channel.

According to the expert, it is impossible to liberate territories when your strategy is mobile defense. Yes, he notes, Syrskyi said that active defense would be conducted, and that is exactly what was happening on the Zaporizhzhia front, but these actions did not lead to progress at the operational level.

“We delayed the enemy’s movement. Perhaps we disrupted the enemy’s plans for the spring military campaign. Perhaps, but only for a certain time. Again, as you see, time is tangible. We delayed them for a month or two, but after that they recovered within a week and started moving again,” Oleh Starikov explains.

In the expert’s opinion, the active defense on the Zaporizhzhia front also had political expediency — it was necessary to show that we were advancing so that the West would provide weapons. However, he notes, Trump started a war against Iran, so all attention has now shifted there, which is critical for Ukraine in terms of weapons supplies.

“Apparently, the main direction of the strike for 2026 still remains the Pokrovsk–Myrnohrad agglomeration and the Sloviansk–Kramatorsk agglomeration. Why? Because the military carry out political tasks. Putin states that they are interested in the entire Donbas and want us to withdraw. Since we are not withdrawing, they will continue fighting, and this will be the main direction of attack,” Oleh Starikov concluded.
