It would be logical to debate Ukraine’s relations with Europe rather than steal cash-in-transit vehicles, an expert says about Orbán

Political strategist Mikhail Sheitelman stated that stealing the assets of Oschadbank and banning Ukraine’s accession to the EU at the legislative level is not a logical way to resolve Ukraine’s problems with Hungary, Politeka reports.

He said this in his blog.

“Orbán’s government is living out what I hope is its last month. Maybe not. I don’t know, maybe they’ll elect him again. But Orbán’s government is simply… First, the Hungarian parliament voted against Ukraine’s admission to the European Union. Second, Orbán’s government approved the seizure of the stolen valuables of Oschadbank. In other words, they suddenly adopted a bylaw stating that if a lot of money is being transported through their territory, then this money should be taken away. As if this rule was not invented about us at all… It just randomly occurred to them that it was time to adopt such a resolution. And they adopted it,” Mikhail Sheitelman says.

Hungary’s Minister of Construction Lázár, the expert notes, said that they will not give in to blackmail related to the Druzhba oil pipeline, and that the money will not be returned; according to him, they will continue taking it until they receive Russian oil.

“And the final word,” he continues, “was said by Orbán himself. According to him, there should always be something between Hungary and Russia — we may call it Ukraine, but there must always be something there. In other words,” the expert emphasizes, “Hungary itself does not want to be neighbors with Russia, but it wants to love it from afar, while also not letting Ukraine into the EU.”

“In this situation, I wanted to quote American journalist Roy Peter Clark. He said the following: ‘I prefer people who, when arguing about their preference for different kinds of whiskey, pull different bottles of whiskey out of their pockets rather than pistols.’ Do you understand what I mean? If Orbán wants to discuss the role of Ukraine in Europe, it would be logical to discuss relations between Ukraine and Europe rather than steal cash-in-transit vehicles. Do you see the fine line?” Mikhail Sheitelman concluded.
