“We Can Think About So-Called Small Alliances”: Expert Proposes an Alternative to NATO

NATO

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko assessed the strategy Ukraine has chosen against Russia and what is needed for it, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this in his blog.

According to the expert, something in Russia may change after Vladimir Putin, since a great deal in the Russian-Ukrainian war currently depends specifically and personally on him.

“One possible strategy is to outlast Putin. But in order to outlast Putin, we need stable support from the West, and there are currently problems with that. For objective reasons — because the war in the Middle East is ongoing and because Trump’s position is somewhat different from what we would like,” Musiienko comments.

He also notes that joining NATO remains the strongest security guarantee for Ukraine. This is a fact, he says, but at the moment there is unfortunately no consensus among all NATO members about admitting Ukraine. Although this may change over time, this is the current reality and it must be understood.

“Although NATO still appears confident, there are already many skeptical assessments. There is no real alternative to such a bloc, but we can think about so-called small alliances — that is, agreements and deeper cooperation with the countries that feel the Russian threat most strongly. They are our natural allies, and cooperation with them should be strengthened,” Oleksandr Musiienko explains.
