Economist on U.S. aid to Ukraine: “Less than what they spend on utilities for federal buildings”

Trump

Economist Yaroslav Romanchuk stated that it was a mistake to place hopes on Republicans, since under Joe Biden the United States provided little aid to Ukraine for the war, and under Donald Trump none at all, reports Politeka.

He spoke about this on the “7 Steps” channel.

“There is a comparison that Americans gave Ukraine less for the war than they spend on utilities for federal buildings. Federal buildings—these are utilities, energy—and they spend more on that per year than they did over four years on supporting Ukraine. And then Trump comes out and says they gave Ukraine $350 billion. That’s complete madness. How can that be?” Romanchuk claims.

Therefore, he concludes, it is necessary to work with American society, with congressmen, with people who are responsible for these decisions and actions. In other words, the economist explains, we need to understand what arguments we can present to our partners so they do not claim that Ukrainians are freeloaders.

As he notes, Trump constantly makes statements that the U.S. gave Ukraine this and that, but in 2025 support was zero—this is a fact. In total, military aid over four years amounted to $40 billion, while $50 billion has already been spent in just two weeks of war in the Middle East, which indicates priorities.

“Remember, we thought there was very little aid under Biden, and now, after a year has passed, there is nothing at all. When Biden was in office, there was at least something. Remember, we wanted lend-lease and everything else. None of that really happened, unfortunately. But we hoped that when the Republican Party came to power, there would be improvement, but there is absolutely nothing,” Yaroslav Romanchuk concludes.
