“Transfers to a bank card may become an issue”: a journalist warns about monitoring of sales on OLX

Journalist Ekaterina Kotenkova said that the tax authorities identify people who sell goods online and explained that they will focus on those for whom this is a systematic source of income. She shared this on the “Znay.ua” channel.

“Financial monitoring never sleeps. Now they will start looking at bank cards and conducting checks. This does not mean that every transfer to a card will become a problem. You won’t be fined for every 500 UAH received from relatives, and you won’t become a violator for every sale of an old jacket on OLX. But if transfers to a card start to look like systematic income, the tax authorities view it very differently. And this is exactly where a person may encounter what everyone fears — a tax notice-decision (TND),” Kotenkova notes.

According to her, the State Tax Service officially announced that since March they have started continuously identifying people who sell goods online. As the journalist explains, selling personal belongings in itself is not grounds for an automatic fine — the focus is specifically on signs of entrepreneurial activity, meaning systematic sales of similar goods.

If a TND is received, she says, the main thing is not to panic or ignore it. First, you need to understand why the tax authority issued additional charges — what period, amounts, and grounds are involved — to determine whether there is something to explain. It is also important to know, the journalist emphasizes, that a TND is not the end of the story: this document can be analyzed and appealed.

“Conclusion: the tax authorities are not sitting in your phone and fining you for every transfer, but they are already taking a critical view of online sales, and regular payments that look like business income will raise concerns,” Kotenkova concludes.
