“Military planning isn’t handled by Trump”: an Israeli officer assessed whether the U.S. will carry out a ground operation against Iran

Iran

Israel Defense Forces officer Igal Levin explained that although Trump makes many different statements, he has indeed been fixated on Iran for a long time, and a ground operation is genuinely possible, Politeka reports.

He said this on Valerii Savchuk’s program “Different People.”

“I wouldn’t listen too closely to what Trump says. Trump has his own style, but military planning isn’t handled by Trump. The U.S. has had plans for war — they’ve been planning and conducting war games simulating a conflict with Iran since the early 2000s. Where was Trump then? This isn’t just Trump’s story,” Levin emphasized.

Yes, the officer noted, Trump does have his own particular focus when it comes to Iran. One can even recall his interviews from the late 1970s, in which he called for taking Iran’s oil, launching an operation, and not tolerating the new regime. So, Levin concludes, Trump has been consistent on the Iran issue; as a businessman, he spoke about it long before.

“As for a ground operation — yes, that option exists. I think it’s quite likely. Everyone talks about Kharg Island, but there are other strategically valuable islands that could be used as a starting point. It’s not necessary to go straight for the main objective. There are other islands; perhaps operations will begin there. Then again, Trump could change his mind at any moment and decide to stop everything, but most likely there will be operations on the islands. That’s where things are heading. All indicators point to it. I’m talking about real indicators, not what Trump says,” Levin stated.

In addition, the guest noted that it’s not only Trump making numerous statements right now — this is what’s called “throwing up smoke.” In other words, in an era of information transparency, a large number of statements are deliberately made so that the adversary doesn’t know what to rely on.
