We are beginning to outmaneuver Russia geopolitically in the Mediterranean: an expert

Mediterranean

Political strategist Mikhail Sheitelman commented on an RFI report stating that Ukrainian troops are based in Libya, from where they struck a Russian gas tanker with a drone, and assessed what this means, Politeka reports. He spoke about this on his blog.

“This is the situation. You see, when we look at all of this together, it forms a kind of network. Could we have imagined this four years ago? Four years ago, the question was whether the Russians would take Kyiv or not—whether in three days, or four, or five, or six. And today we are confronting Russia globally. Today we are global players. Thanks to the fact that we have naval drones, while others do not, we are beginning to control the Mediterranean Sea. As you may have guessed, Syria (editor’s note: where Zelensky visited) is also on the Mediterranean,” comments Mikhail Sheitelman.

According to him, Western media write that the war involving the United States and Israel against Iran, and Iran against the Persian Gulf countries, is gradually becoming a proxy war between Ukraine and Russia. In other words, the expert explains, Russia has Iran, while Ukraine has the rest of the countries—now including Libya and Syria.

“I understand that all this is still at the level of outlines, a concept, a beginning—but the scale… What a huge ambition we have! It seems to me these are real strategic moves. We are in a geopolitical game. Thanks to the fact that our forces managed to hold out in Donbas and in Huliaipole, we are beginning to outplay Russia geopolitically in the Mediterranean. Ukraine is becoming a regional power. No, not a global superpower, but a regional one. We have learned to play chess,” explains Mikhail Sheitelman.

According to the expert, Ukraine has suddenly learned and taken the place of a large number of countries on the world stage while others have weakened. In his view, countries like France, Britain, and Italy should theoretically be there, but they have gone in a different direction, while Ukraine is becoming influential at least in military terms, since it is still difficult to speak about financial and political influence.
