Grain, drones, and prospects: expert assesses what Ukraine and Syria will cooperate on

Military expert Oleg Starikov explained that during Zelensky’s visit to Syria, the focus was evidently прежде всего on hunger and grain supplies, but also on security, where Ukraine can provide assistance. He spoke about this on his channel.

“You can talk a lot about geopolitics and drones, but I think the main thing is food—grain. Because in Syria right now the key issue is hunger. Preventing famine is the top priority. Syria has always had problems, of course. Russia used to supply them with nitrogen fertilizers and food products as well. Ukraine can supply grain and everything related to food and provision. And the price of grain after all these global developments in the fall, I think, will rise two or even three times. It will really increase,” Oleg Starikov explains.

As for military-technical cooperation, the expert says it is, of course, about transforming the Syrian army, drones that are becoming the main strike tools, the sale of equipment, training, and so on—because this is перспективно.

“In general, given what is happening in the world now, especially considering President Zelensky’s policy and his visits to the Gulf, a law on private military companies should be adopted. Again, the Russian-Ukrainian war will not last another 100 years, as some deputies say. The war will end. It will end. But what should be done with a million people in the army?” Oleg Starikov reflects.

As he explains, there are four types of servicemen in the army, and one of them consists of people who joined specifically to earn money. They fight alongside volunteers, career officers, and those who legally came to kill. Those who joined to earn money, the expert claims, could be organized into private military companies; they could carry out state tasks in the Middle East and earn income for themselves. In that case, it would also be easier to bring them back if any of them were captured there.
