“To make Russians lose interest in producing ballistic weapons”: an expert spoke about Ukraine’s plans to create an alternative to Patriot

Political strategist Mykhailo Sheitelman said that Ukraine is reaching a new level, as Fire Point aims to create a cheaper alternative to the Patriot air defense system, and funding is already in place, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this on his blog.

As Reuters writes, the expert explains, Fire Point is negotiating with European companies to develop a low-cost alternative to the Patriot air defense system. The goal is to reduce the cost of intercepting a ballistic missile to under $1 million. A missile for the Patriot system, he notes, costs $3 million, and two are typically launched against a single Russian missile, totaling $6 million.

“Usually, two Patriot missiles are launched at one target, which is at least $6 million. At least, because that’s how we do it. Gulf countries, as we’ve heard, launch up to six Patriot missiles—that’s $18 million. And that’s even against drones—well, probably against ballistic missiles too. The goal of the Ukrainian company is $1 million per intercepted missile, so that Russians lose interest in producing ballistic weapons altogether,” explains Mykhailo Sheitelman.

The expert notes that it is sensational that he read this news in the Russian propaganda outlet RBC (“RosBusinessConsulting”). In other words, he emphasizes, Russian propagandists are already writing about Fire Point and its plans to create a cheaper alternative to Patriot—this itself is a form of recognition.

“At present, Fire Point is awaiting approval from the Ukrainian government for investments from a Middle Eastern conglomerate, estimated at $2.5 billion,” concludes Mykhailo Sheitelman.
