“Trump did what he could”: an expert assessed how the U.S. war against Iran ended

Trump

Political strategist Mikhail Sheitelman stated that the U.S. war against Iran predictably ended with Trump declaring victory. There is indeed some degree of victory, but a complete one is simply impossible, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this on his blog.

According to the expert, it was clear that just as Iranian civilization has stood for 3,000 years, it would continue to stand despite Trump’s threats to change the regime and take revenge for 47 years of oppression, as well as despite Tucker Carlson’s statements that nuclear weapons would be used. He recalls his own forecast from the very first day of the U.S. war against Iran: that one night Trump would write a post declaring victory without any ground operations—and that is exactly what happened. Nevertheless, the expert notes, Iran did indeed lose, as its missile industry has been destroyed and its enriched uranium is buried somewhere—try making bombs out of it now.

“But there is an aftertaste. One always wants more. You understand that, for example, even if Ukraine manages to fully liberate all occupied territories and Putin is put on trial in The Hague, we would still say that more could have been done. If Putin were hanged on Khreshchatyk, we would say we wanted it upside down, like Mussolini. Therefore, a complete and final victory never exists. Let’s put it this way: realistic goals have been achieved, unrealistic ones have not,” emphasizes Mikhail Sheitelman.

As for a peace agreement, he notes that the sides have fundamentally opposing positions: the U.S. and Israel want to live in peace, while Iran wants a nuclear bomb and to destroy all Israelis. The same situation exists for us, the expert says: Ukraine wants peace, EU and NATO membership, and development, while Russians want to kill and be killed, to carry out genocide against Ukrainians.

“It is impossible to believe that the war can end in peace. In the end, one side must eventually lose completely—either Iran or the United States. But not completely, and not now—neither side has that capability. Some say: ‘Iran should have been finished off completely.’ How do you storm a country of 90 million people? With what? Israel simply does not have enough people physically, and America is far away. You would need to build 100 aircraft carriers, sail over, and capture Iran. And then what would you do with them? Re-educate them for 20 years like Germany? Denazification, demilitarization? It’s like trying to remake Russia—re-educate everyone. The majority of the population there are Putin supporters; turning them into different people is a problem. Even if you captured all that territory, what would you do with it? It’s unclear. There is no simple solution to this problem. But periodically making them safer, taking away the most dangerous weapons—that is what remains for civilization. And here Trump did what he could,” explains Mikhail Sheitelman.
