The “sea-to-sea” idea is taking on new contours: an expert spoke about a North–South alliance with Ukraine

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko said that Ukraine is proposing a new powerful alliance stretching from the Arctic to the Middle East, and stated that this would help counter Russia, Politeka reports. He shared this in his blog.

After a series of consultations with the leaders of the United Kingdom and Turkey, the expert notes, Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed an ambitious concept of creating a military-political alliance involving the United Kingdom, Norway, Turkey, and Ukraine. According to him, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, the Baltic states, Poland, as well as Syria and other countries could also be included.

“Zelenskyy recently visited Turkey and Syria—specifically the Middle East—to discuss security and logistics issues. In fact, this ‘sea-to-sea’ idea is taking on new contours. Now the president is in Germany and Norway not by chance either—his European tour continues in order to form a military-political alliance. It does not interfere with NATO; it stems from geography,” Oleksandr Musiienko emphasizes.

He also stresses that Yurii Lypa wrote about this in his “Black Sea Doctrine,” arguing that the alliance should not be limited to the West but should extend from North to South. Moreover, the expert adds, this poses a serious challenge to the Kremlin, as it involves the Baltic and Black Seas, access to the Arctic, and the Mediterranean.

He notes that Belarus is currently an obstacle along this path, but ultimately the regime there will change, there will be rapprochement with Europe, and it will take part in this alliance—where the United Kingdom provides nuclear deterrence and serves as a global financial center, Norway offers control of the Arctic and defense industry capacity, Turkey controls the Bosporus and provides access to the Middle East and the Mediterranean, and Ukraine contributes its army and combat experience.

“We need a special representative for security issues to help form the North–South alliance—within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, or the National Security and Defense Council, depending on the decision of the political leadership,” Oleksandr Musiienko adds.
