“This stage of negotiations should be considered closed”: expert says Trump’s peace initiatives have failed

Trump

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko explained that the ceasefire Trump had placed so much hope in has ended, and with it all hopes for the success of US mediation efforts, reports Politeka.

He said this in his blog.

According to the expert, the ceasefire was conditional to begin with; it only reduced the number of deep strikes significantly, but on the night of May 12 the attacks resumed. This means, he explains, that Putin ignored Trump’s request, who had hoped the ceasefire would continue. In addition, the expert adds, Budanov stated that a conversation between Zelensky and Putin will not happen suddenly, and that Kyiv is open to a real diplomatic process if Moscow demonstrates readiness for serious negotiations, but Moscow is showing nothing.

“We need to be honest that this negotiation format, this stage of negotiations, should be considered closed. It did not fully work. It is obvious that the United States did not act as an effective mediator, as it should have been in practice. The US not only played along with Russia but also failed to hear Ukraine’s conditions,” Oleksandr Musiienko claims.

The New York Times, The Economist, and Financial Times, he notes, unanimously write that Ukraine may be seizing the initiative on the front line, that Russia’s spring offensive has failed, and that Ukrainian strikes are successful. According to the expert, this could not be ignored in favor of playing along with Moscow.

“Therefore, given the position of the United States, which is increasingly taking one side, what should we do next? Continue fighting under these conditions until we demonstrate and say: stop, here are our demands. Do not allow our unity to be shaken or undermined from within. This is also critically important now — to maintain control over the situation,” Oleksandr Musiienko concludes.
