Peace or Mobilization: Expert Describes Shift in Mood Among Russian War Correspondents

Moscow, Kreml

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine have effectively disrupted Russia’s spring offensive, while Russian war correspondents are now calling either for mobilization or for peace, according to Politeka.

He spoke about this on his blog.

According to the expert, the Defense Forces have taken control of key locations in Stepnohirsk, Zaporizhzhia region. Fierce fighting had been ongoing for this settlement, he said, and for several weeks the Russians had been trying to prepare bridgeheads for a further breakthrough. However, Ukrainian assault units carried out a series of active offensive operations aimed at pushing out the Russian occupiers.

“This is indeed important news. By the way, since we are already talking about the front line, Russian war correspondents are beginning to say that Russia either needs to announce full-scale mobilization or genuinely move toward peace agreements — that under such conditions the war should be stopped because Russia cannot achieve results. Even Russian war correspondents are now admitting this. But apparently, this still isn’t getting through to Putin,” Oleksandr Musiienko noted.

According to the expert, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are successfully disrupting Russia’s spring offensive by inflicting maximum losses on the enemy, and this issue is already settled. Meanwhile, he says, the Kremlin is counting on the United States returning to its mediation efforts and putting pressure on Ukraine, but Ukraine is demonstrating its agency and independence in decision-making.

“The Kremlin’s calculation is that eventually the Trump administration will have to increase pressure on Ukraine. And indeed, it can be said that such pressure may intensify in the near future. So we should not harbor unnecessary illusions here either. Such plans may exist, but will they force us? Wait a moment — we have the right to be heard. We are fighting for our security, freedom, and for our free, independent, and sovereign future. Therefore, stop and listen to Ukraine’s position. Without this, imposing something on us will not succeed. But the Kremlin continues to think this way, despite the fact that war correspondents are already urging people to reflect on what is happening,” Oleksandr Musiienko concluded.
