"The United States is no longer in that condition": an expert explained why Trump could not quickly end the Russian-Ukrainian war

Trump

Political scientist Alexei Yakubin explained that the United States is trying to establish peace between Ukraine and Russia using old methods, when there was a unipolar world, but now it is not working, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this in the program "Personality with Sergey Doyko".

"Trump really sincerely believed that he could move the negotiations forward. But I would attribute to their piggy bank the fact that they were able to organize the shuttle diplomacy that we saw. That is, they did these moments. But the United States now is no longer the United States of the 80s-90s," - Alexei Yakubin notes.

At one time, he recalls, the United States had successful experience of peace settlement, for example, these are the same Dayton agreements regarding the Balkans. However, in the Middle East, the expert emphasizes, the status of a superpower did not help the US conclude a final peace, even despite the large amount of resources that it invested there, despite the influence on Israel, Egypt and other countries.
“But, again, the States did it then in a very, very strong form, because in the 90s there was definitely a unipolar world, and the States were the key pole. And now the situation has changed, and now the States are not really in that condition anymore. And they are trying to act using the old methods that worked when there was one superpower, but in the new conditions it does not work, and even then it did not always work,” explains Oleksiy Yakubin.

If we even take the Russian-Ukrainian war, the guest of the program argues, then it would seem that the US has a lot of leverage to influence Ukraine so that it makes concessions, but Trump admits that it is not so easy for him with Zelensky. And this, he adds, we are not even talking about Russia, which has nuclear weapons, which the US obviously takes into account. In other words, the expert states, Trump believed that he could easily bring the parties to the negotiating table, conjure up some kind of peace plan and everyone would agree to it, but everything turned out to be more complicated.
