“China Is Returning”: Expert Assesses Whether Xi Jinping Will Help Trump End the War

Political analyst Ruslan Bortnik said that China appears to have decided to join the negotiation process and that only with its assistance will the United States be able to bring the Russian-Ukrainian war to an end, Politeka reports.

He discussed this in his blog.

“The most interesting aspect is the South China Morning Post. It is a semi-official publication of the Communist Party of China that communicates positions which are sometimes inconvenient to state directly. The fact that this publication appeared (editor’s note: claiming that Trump asked Xi to influence Putin) suggests that China is considering the possibility of intervening in the conflict as a powerful mediator. China is likely willing to accept the U.S. proposal regarding participation in a peace settlement. China is returning to the negotiation track,” Ruslan Bortnik explained.

The expert also notes that Trump’s request to Xi Jinping can be interpreted as an admission by the United States that it is unable to end the Russian-Ukrainian war on its own and unable to persuade the parties to stop continuing this catastrophe.

“‘China Is Returning’ should be the headline in this situation. And I am convinced that only joint mediation by the United States and China can stop the Russian-Ukrainian war,” Ruslan Bortnik argues.

Of course, the expert adds, all other parties must also take part in the negotiations, especially Europe, without whose involvement a peace settlement would be impossible, not to mention Ukraine and Russia themselves. However, he emphasizes that a joint position by China and the United States could resolve many issues, although, unfortunately, we are still only at the initial stage of building this negotiating framework.
