Negotiations Have Not Stopped: Expert Explains When the War Could End

Political analyst Vitaliy Kulyk stated that peace negotiations are in fact ongoing. While a final peace settlement remains a long way off, he believes that the active phase of hostilities should be brought to an end by the end of this year, according to Politeka.

He discussed the issue on the program “7 Steps.”

“For quite a long time, there have been claims that the negotiation process has stalled and that nothing is happening. Budanov clearly addressed this. Negotiations are indeed taking place. According to my information, they are occurring across all negotiating platforms. Talks are being held in Geneva, Miami, Arab countries, and Turkey. They have never stopped. Not a single day has passed without a call or communication with the U.S. negotiating team. There have been no delays on any issue. The problem is that there is still no understanding regarding the political aspects. As for the technical aspects—how specific agreements would be implemented—those issues are being resolved,” Kulyk claims.

Commenting on the president’s statement about ending the war by the end of the year, Kulyk explained that this is a desired scenario. Most experts and strategists, he said, believe there is indeed a six-month window of opportunity to end the active phase of hostilities from the perspectives of economics, geopolitics, and military dynamics. Otherwise, he warned, a different trajectory could emerge, leading to a prolonged war with all its consequences.

“This also aligns with the U.S. agenda, as elections are approaching. Accordingly, Trump needs to demonstrate to voters that he has ended another war. In our understanding, however, this does not mean the war is truly over. Absolutely not. Conducting negotiations is a state of neither peace nor war. In other words, we do not have a final end to the war. We have a negotiation process and a fluctuating situation on the front line, where periods of relative calm alternate with renewed fighting, which does not rule out major missile and drone attacks,” Kulyk explained.

He also noted that various temporary ceasefires may occur, followed by renewed attacks. Therefore, the formal conclusion of the war and the legal finalization of a peace process could take years, meaning that a comprehensive end to the conflict may still be a distant prospect.
