“This Is Witkoff No 2”: Expert Explains Why Trump Appointed a Patriarch as a Negotiator

Political strategist Mikhail Sheitelman stated that because Trump appoints random people as negotiators on Ukraine and Russia, while burdening them with numerous other tasks, the war continues, Politeka reports.

He discussed this on his blog.

“The return of the prodigal Trump has taken place. The Israeli publication Ynet reported that Trump has come up with a new mediator for the negotiations. Apparently, Witkoff was not enough. He believes that the mediator between Russia and Ukraine should be Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem. Where did he even dig him up? How did he even find out that there is a city called Jerusalem and that it has some patriarch? Honestly, I have no idea,” Mikhail Sheitelman remarked.

According to the expert, Theophilos III is the Patriarch of the Greek Orthodox Church of Jerusalem and maintains working relations with Jordan, Israel, and the Palestinian Authority. Therefore, Sheitelman speculates, the patriarch was probably trying to help address issues related to Israel, told Trump something about Palestinians and Israelis, and Trump then assigned him the additional task of ending the Russian-Ukrainian war.

“I simply have no other explanation. How could the Patriarch of Jerusalem have come to Trump’s mind as someone to resolve our war? This is Witkoff No. 2. First, Witkoff was tasked with dealing with Qatar and Iran because he had connections there, then he was told to solve Gaza as well and mediate peace between Ukraine and Russia. What connection did he have to any of that? Completely unclear. Now he’s expected to seize Greenland and steal a railway from the Armenians too...” Mikhail Sheitelman commented.

Thus, he concludes, it is obvious that the patriarch came to discuss the problems between the Palestinian Authority and Israel with Trump, but Trump then added Ukraine and Russia to his list of responsibilities, and next it will be Greenland, Canada, and so on. According to the expert, it is precisely this approach by the U.S. president that explains why the Russian-Ukrainian war continues.
