"Lifetime Ban on Entering Europe": Expert Describes the EU's Decisive Step Against Russia

Europe

Political strategist Mikhail Sheitelman explained that it is long overdue to ban Russian military personnel from traveling to the EU and to prevent wounded Russian soldiers from participating in the Paralympic Games. It now appears that such a decision may finally be made, Politeka reports.

He discussed the issue on his blog.

"While Ukraine's Defense Forces are imposing decisive sanctions — physical ones — against those attempting to enter our occupied territories, Europeans seem to have finally made up their minds and are planning to ban from entering the European Union anyone who has participated in this war on Russia's side. Everyone, without exception. This is very good news and could have enormous consequences if Ursula von der Leyen's proposal is ultimately carried through," said Mikhail Sheitelman.

According to him, this proposal has been voiced many times before by various European politicians, and several countries have advocated for it. However, the European Commission has now reportedly proposed including in the 21st sanctions package a ban on entry to the EU for all participants in the war in Ukraine on Russia's side, with the ban being lifelong. The expert emphasized that the proposal specifically refers to anyone who has served in the Russian Armed Forces at any point since February 24, 2022, even for a single day.

He added that one benefit of such a measure would be preventing Russians who were wounded during the war from participating in the Paralympic Games. More broadly, he argued that the ban should eventually be extended to all individuals who have entered occupied Ukrainian territories, ensuring that none of them can end up in Europe.

"I very much hope this measure will be adopted and that no new Hungary will emerge to block the process. Once again, the good news is that it would apply to anyone who has served in the Russian army — anyone at all, whether they served in the Far East or were merely conscripts. It doesn't matter. That's it, goodbye. A lifetime ban on entering Europe," Mikhail Sheitelman concluded.
