“Ballistic Missile Interception Performance Has Improved”: Expert on the Latest Attack on Kyiv

Political analyst and serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Musiienko, commented on the latest large-scale attack on Kyiv and assessed whether the interception rate of Russian ballistic missiles has improved, Politeka reports.

He shared his views on his blog.

“Five out of six Zircon anti-ship missiles were successfully intercepted. That is actually a good result. Fifteen ballistic missiles were shot down out of 34 launched. The interception dynamics for ballistic missiles have improved somewhat compared to previous attacks. Overall, the interception rate is around 35–40%, or even 40–45% in practice. Previously, it was about 20–25%, up to 30%. The situation with the supply of missiles for the Patriot systems has improved to some extent. However, we can see that only 15 out of 34 missiles were intercepted, meaning that, unfortunately, 19 missiles were not,” Oleksandr Musiienko noted.

According to him, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported fires and confirmed that the enemy struck residential buildings, warehouses, and infrastructure facilities. Judging by the nature of the attack, the expert believes that Russian forces were attempting to target logistics facilities, including logistics terminals and industrial sites in Kyiv and the surrounding Kyiv region.

He stated that these terror-style missile and drone attacks are likely to continue throughout the summer, approximately two to three times per month, depending on how quickly Russia can accumulate the resources necessary for such large-scale assaults. The goal, he emphasized, is to weaken Ukraine’s capabilities, spread panic, and undermine public morale.

“Putin will continue terrorizing Kyiv two to three times a month, trying to weaken us and cause destruction, suffering, and the maximum possible damage. This includes losses of property, real estate, and businesses, because they are also targeting warehouses and various terminals containing goods that are, of course, unrelated to the military sector. Property, vehicles, apartments, and so on,” Oleksandr Musiienko concluded.
