“This Is a Threat to All Democracies”: Expert Warns of Possible North Korean Involvement in the War

Political analyst and Ukrainian Armed Forces serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko assessed the threats posed by North Korea, including photos and videos allegedly showing North Korean troops preparing to be deployed to the front in support of Russia, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this on his blog.

“Regardless of what country they come from, anyone fighting under the Russian flag who enters our land without invitation will be eliminated. That is obvious. There are reports that North Koreans are appearing. They have not yet been seen on the front line, so we should wait for official confirmation. But this indicates that the Kremlin is internationalizing the war by bringing in its allies,” Oleksandr Musiienko said.

According to the expert, people often say that democracy is the worst form of government, except that no better alternative has ever been devised. He explained that dictatorships can make decisions much more quickly because they do not have to hold extensive parliamentary debates, consult coalition partners, take the opposition into account, or conduct opinion polls to determine how popular a particular idea is, as is common practice in European democracies.

“This is, in fact, a threat to all democracies. That is also what the head of Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence, Budanov, has been emphasizing as he calls on international partners to accelerate the delivery of missiles for Ukraine’s air defense systems. He says this concerns all of Europe now. And to effectively protect Europe itself, an anti-ballistic program such as Freya is, of course, needed,” Musiienko stated.

In this regard, the expert noted that President Zelenskyy recently held a meeting with all relevant manufacturers, government officials, and representatives of the defense and security sectors. However, he pointed out that current discussions focus on the 2026–2027 timeframe, with little concrete information about when Ukraine’s domestic ballistic and anti-ballistic capabilities will become operational. Until then, he concluded, Ukraine will have to continue holding the line.
