“It's Going Around in Circles”: Expert Assesses Whether the US Can Bribe Putin Into Ending the War
Political expert and Ukrainian Armed Forces serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko said there are hopes for an energy truce due to the fuel crisis in Russia, but the US plan to simply give Putin money will definitely not work, Politeka reports.
He said this in his blog.
“Russia is currently facing problems because the Yaroslavl Oil Refinery stopped operating following successful attacks by the Defense Forces, leaving Moscow without gasoline. They are now urgently trying to figure out what to do, but we can see that the fuel crisis in Russia is our argument in favor of an energy truce, to force Putin to agree to it,” Oleksandr Musiienko noted.
According to him, if Ukraine had more means of striking from the air, including missiles, we could inflict greater damage on the enemy's economy and logistics, and we would not need any truce — we would simply continue hitting Russia hard. But that is not the case, the expert stated, so an energy truce is in Ukraine's interests. At the same time, it is necessary to explain to Europeans why Ukraine needs more weapons to be supplied.
In his view, there are still some limited hopes that during the meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York next week, it will be possible to reach an energy and maritime truce.
“NYT writes that the Americans are once again offering Russia economic deals so that it ends the war against Ukraine. Why? They see that Ukraine will not agree to territorial concessions, so the Americans are offering Putin money and investments. But it's going around in circles. In 2025, Dmitriev visited the US and proposed investing $15 trillion in Russia and making another trillion in profits. We have actually been through all this before. I'm not sure it will help. But it is worth hoping for an energy truce. If Putin does not agree to it, then we are entering the winter campaign, and we will fight very intensely,” Oleksandr Musiienko concluded.
