"Combat operations are underway 27 km from Sumy": expert reveals the purpose of the Russian offensive

war

Political expert and military officer Oleksandr Musienko revealed how difficult the situation is in the Sumy region, what the real goal of the Russians is and whether they will have enough forces to implement it, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this in his blog.

"Russia is intensifying offensive operations in the Sumy region. The occupiers have advanced near Novoselka, Vodolahiv, Lokn and Bilovody. This is reported by DeepState, the zone is approaching Yunakivka. Indeed, the enemy has become more active, combat operations are underway 27 km from Sumy. But this is actually near the Russian-Ukrainian border. The goal declared by the enemy is to expand the buffer zone, hence the attack," Oleksandr Musienko notes.

As he explains, this story has been going on since December 2024, when the Russians began to increase pressure on the Kursk region in order to push the Armed Forces of Ukraine out of there. In the end, the expert continues, with the help of aviation, KABs, drones, they managed to squeeze the positions of the Ukrainian troops in Sudzh and surrounding settlements, our forces counterattacked from the flanks, but, in the end, had to retreat.

In addition, he adds, what is happening in the Sumy region is also a flank operation. That is, the expert says, the Russians have intensified attacks on the Donetsk region, its complete capture is the goal of the summer military campaign, but for this, attacks in other directions are needed to distract the Armed Forces of Ukraine. But it is important, the expert notes, that the Russians did not break through to the Sumy region on the same wave on which they were advancing on Sudzh, then there would have been much more problems and threats.

"Currently, the enemy is demonstrating readiness, but if they had the opportunity, they would have reached an operation to semi-encircle or surround Sumy. Until this is observed, Ukrainian troops continue to resist. The situation looks like some villages are changing hands, the gray zone is expanding, then shrinking. That is, active fighting continues, but, however, the situation there has become more complicated," Oleksandr Musienko concludes.
