Sanctions Against Russia and Weapons for Ukraine: Expert Assesses When Trump’s Patience Might Run Out

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko shared his assessment of what could finally push Putin to engage in serious negotiations and agree to a ceasefire, Politeka reports.

He shared his insights in a blog post.

“Unfortunately, I don’t think that moment has arrived yet, as we can see from Russia’s actions. Just look at the facts: Russian terror continues, strikes on Ukrainian cities persist, and Russia is carrying out offensive operations on the front. There are no signs that they’re planning to stop,” Musiienko noted.

According to the expert, it’s clear that Putin believes the war in the Middle East has opened a window of opportunity for him, as global media attention has shifted somewhat away from the war in Ukraine and is now more focused on Iran, Israel, and developments in that region.

“Besides that, I believe Putin is walking a razor’s edge, skating on very thin ice, as he’s testing the patience of President Trump. And for some reason, Putin seems to think that Trump is so weak he’ll tolerate any form of terror or reckless behavior by the Russian dictator. But I don’t think so. I have a different opinion,” Musiienko emphasized.

Nevertheless, the expert says that with every act of aggression against Ukraine, Putin is testing Trump’s patience, and thus the situation could change very quickly. In his view, this means the U.S. could provide Ukraine with additional military aid and impose new sanctions against Russia. It’s precisely this combination of measures, he believes, that could push Russia toward rapid negotiations for a ceasefire.
