Negotiation Reversal: Expert Explained What Could Save the Peace Track from Collapse

Trump-Putin Meeting in Alaska

Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik assessed whether we have really covered 200 meters out of the 10 kilometers on the road to peace, as stated by German Chancellor Merz, and explained how to save the negotiation process, reports Politeka.
He shared this in his blog.

“I still view this road more positively than the German Chancellor. This sadness we now hear in Western Europe is largely due to the fact that they are not really in control. Trump is steering the process, with Ukraine and Russia actively involved. And Europe is playing fourth or even fifth fiddle. They are simply told when to pay or what needs to be done. It’s like at a party where everyone had fun, but then, when leaving, they say: ‘You settle the bill.’ That’s the position Europe is being put in now,” Bortnik explained.

According to the expert, in the Western mindset, words carry legal responsibility, and hate speech is monitored closely. Therefore, if you can’t say something offensive directly, you just make a face or a grimace so that everyone understands you’re displeased. And right now, he notes, Western Europe is making such grimaces — it is disappointed and showing discontent.

“That’s why, of course, things feel gloomy in Western Europe. But I believe the probability of ending the war this year is around 25–30%. Not long ago, it was 45%, but in the past week we’ve been witnessing a negotiation reversal,” Bortnik pointed out.

In other words, the expert explained, Ukraine and Russia are making statements that distort or even disavow everything that was said in Alaska, Washington, and around them. In his opinion, if Trump does not step in now with a firm word, this reversal will continue, because for the ruling elites it is more convenient to keep the situation as it is than to take sharp turns and risk crashing into a ditch.
