Secret negotiations: expert explained whether there is real progress in the peace track

Political strategist Mykhailo Sheitelman explained that the White House statements about a change in the parties’ positions are not secret diplomacy but fiction. All of Trump’s cards are already known, nothing new is happening, Politeka reports.

He shared this in his blog.

According to the expert, some believe that secret negotiations are now underway, that Trump has some hidden levers of influence, that someone in his circle is engaged in secret activities, and so on. As he claims, there is no secret diplomacy at all, so one should not believe the White House’s statements that the parties have shifted their positions in some way.
“Unlike other political scientists or theorists of this movement, I refuse to look for a black cat in a dark room when it isn’t there. You are told all sorts of conspiracy theories – that in fact they do this for that reason, because later they will give something to China, sell something to Iran, and then Yemeni Houthis will finally move to Sudan to trade Argentine tango… It’s all lies, all inventions, all fantasies,” Sheitelman stated.

Therefore, the expert stresses, if the king is naked, then it should be said as it is; if Whitkoff is talking nonsense, then it should be said as well, because he has no cards at all. And all of Trump’s cards, he adds, have long been known – there are only two of them: direct or secondary sanctions against Russia and arms supplies to Ukraine.

“There is no secret diplomacy, and I am not willing to invent it. And you know why? Because I am a political strategist, not a political scientist. My specialization is real moves. Real ones. A political strategist gives politicians advice on what can actually be done, rather than trying, like a political scientist, to search for scary behind-the-scenes formulas or explain something. There is nothing to explain here, sorry,” Sheitelman insisted.
