"Xi is quite skillfully restraining Russia: expert explained China’s real goal

China

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko explained that China is not against the U.S., as Putin thinks. China wants to be on par with the U.S., while Russia is merely an instrument for Beijing’s subjectivization, Politeka reports.
He shared this in his blog.

“For China, the West is important. For China, right now it is hardly beneficial for the West to collapse, for the West to stop trading, to break trade and economic ties and begin imposing secondary sanctions, as, for example, the U.S. did against India. And India will face consequences, will face losses. This is already obvious. Leading financial institutions and economists are talking about it. These are irreversible processes,” Oleksandr Musiienko notes.

Moreover, he reminds, trade turnover between China and the U.S. is three times greater than that between China and Russia, and five times greater when comparing China with the U.S. and EU together. Therefore, the expert concludes, if Putin is ready to destroy Russia’s economy for the sake of neo-imperial ambitions, Xi is unlikely to go that far, at least for now.

“A weakened Russia benefits China, because of cheap oil, cheap resources, and increased dependency. Perhaps Putin and his clique would already like to break the chains with which Xi is quite skillfully restraining Russia, but do they have the means? Could Putin ditch his comrade Xi and say, ‘We reached some agreements in Alaska, let’s invite ExxonMobil, Chevron, and other American corporations to invest in Russia, lift sanctions, and then China won’t be needed’? I have my doubts,” Musiienko explains.

According to the expert, Russia today is not sufficiently self-sufficient or independent to tell China ‘goodbye’ and build an alliance with the U.S. In fact, he emphasizes, an alliance with the U.S. is only possible with China’s participation. This is exactly what Xi wants, since even the SCO is an attempt at subjectivization of China as a state with maximum influence on the international situation and on foreign policy processes, including the Russia-Ukraine war.
