The U.S. provides Ukraine with weapons to buy time and persuade Putin to end the war: expert opinion

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiyenko explained that Trump is giving Ukraine weapons not to defeat Russia, but in the meantime to find an approach to Putin and negotiate a truce, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this in his blog.

According to the expert, the U.S. has finally approved a $500 million weapons package for Ukraine, financed by NATO countries. This is the first use of this mechanism, and deliveries may arrive soon. At the same time, he added, Trump is promoting his own scenario for ending the Russian-Ukrainian war – through negotiations rather than a military victory over the aggressor.

“On the one hand, we see the sale of $500 million worth of weapons. But how long have we been waiting for it, how much time has passed? It could already have helped us on the battlefield… So right now, yes, weapons are being provided, but indeed with delay. That’s the first point that needs to be emphasized,” Oleksandr Musiyenko stressed.

Thus, he noted, on the one hand, American weapons are going to Ukraine; on the other, Trump emphasizes negotiations – but in fact, this fits into a certain logic. As the expert explained, the U.S. will continue to provide Ukraine with support simply to exhaust the enemy, just so that Ukraine holds on and Russia does not win, while in the meantime both sides reach some middle-ground decision through negotiations. In other words, the expert emphasized, the U.S. is buying time to find an approach to Putin and achieve a ceasefire regime by the end of this year.

“By the way, President Zelensky himself said that we repelled three major enemy attacks and there will be two more, which, in my opinion, may happen by the end of this year. And here the U.S. is giving us certain support to repel these attacks. Then Russia may not have time to accumulate resources for the 2026 campaign and will be ready to stop the fighting. Something like that,” Oleksandr Musiyenko explained.
