“Kaja Kallas should be demanding, not afraid”: expert says Europe is folding in negotiations

Europe

Political strategist Mikhail Sheitelman explained that the diplomatic front has truly come to the forefront now—everything is being decided there—and for Europe the main thing is not to sleep through its place at the negotiating table, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this on his blog.

“We really are now where Zelensky says we are. And he says the following: ‘These are truly special days now, when everything can change.’ Zelensky is right. It’s a genuinely dangerous moment now. Dangerous. Everything can change. We could lose this war through negotiations, or we could win it by putting Trump in a situation where he will be forced to supply us with new types of weapons and forced to introduce new sanctions against the Russians,” Sheitelman explains.

Usually, the expert notes, the military front is more important than any diplomacy, but right now the diplomatic front is coming to the forefront because very important days have come.

And in this context, he claims, the words of the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas—a great friend of ours—that she is afraid all the pressure will be directed at Ukraine, sounded very unfortunate. As the expert explains, it’s one thing when Ukrainians read the news and fear that everyone will now pressure our country to make us sign something, but it’s another thing when the head of European diplomacy herself is afraid of the outcome of the negotiations.

“The head of European diplomacy should not be afraid, but take action. Well, fly together with Witkoff. Say that you refuse to accept any documents from him, that you must supervise him because, as is known from phone records, he cooperates with the Russians. Let her say: ‘I want to personally oversee Witkoff. I am the head of diplomacy and must be present at every conversation Witkoff has, and if he speaks with the Russians without us, we will consider it treason—treason against our homeland, treason against our values.’ This is where Kaja Kallas should be demanding, not afraid. Demanding, and in this way standing up for our defense. It seems to me this is a very simple story,” Sheitelman concludes.
