Witkoff should have been fired long ago: expert reacts to U.S.–Russia negotiations

Witkoff

Political strategist Mikhail Sheitelman said that Witkoff should have been fired—and even jailed—long ago for such negotiations with the Russians; as long as he remains, there will be no normal diplomacy, Politeka reports.

He said this on his blog.

“I consider it vulgar to endlessly drag out these meaningless negotiations at Witkoff’s golf club. They feed them cabbage rolls every time. Witkoff is literally stuffing Umerov with cabbage rolls, hoping that after the 180th one Umerov won’t be able to take it anymore and will sign this peace agreement,” Mikhail Sheitelman emphasizes.

But now, he notes, we have sensational details from The Wall Street Journal: it turns out that it wasn’t Trump, but Putin who appointed Witkoff as the U.S. negotiator—both ridiculous and outrageous. According to the expert, the Saudi Arabian prince advised Putin to negotiate with Witkoff because you can twist him around your finger, and Putin, guided by the principle “life is bad without a sucker,” took the advice and even set conditions.

“These aren’t my fantasies—that Witkoff had to be alone and without security. Witkoff was required to come without State Department support and without interpreters. That is, the Russians feed him nonsense, and afterward he can’t properly record or report anything. Who’s the sucker here? Who is the sucker in this situation? Trump personally ended up looking like the sucker here, since he agrees to send Witkoff under such conditions. First of all, Trump knows that Witkoff is a complete blockhead—well, fine. But he agrees to send Witkoff on the condition that there will be no interpreter, no Foreign Ministry, nothing—so they can sweet-talk him without witnesses, so they can just count out the cash under the table. And not even give the bribe in bear cubs,” Sheitelman explains.

And despite this information from The Wall Street Journal, the expert stresses, Witkoff has not been fired and remains free. According to him, this cannot be called diplomacy or peace negotiations, and in this situation the United States looks not like a world leader, but like a bunch of simpletons.
