Not a peace treaty, but a deal: an expert explained what kind of negotiations the U.S. and Russia are dragging us into

Trump-Putin Meeting in Alaska

Political analyst Pavlo Zhovnirenko stated that Trump and Putin are ignoring international law in the negotiations, according to which there can be no talk of surrendering Ukrainian territories, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this on the program “Free Media Space.”

As the guest of the program notes, the United States is currently putting forward conditions to Ukraine that, one way or another, are being tested in Russia—if they are not written in the Kremlin altogether. In his opinion, Putin would be satisfied with a U.S. peace plan if it contained just one point—the liquidation of Ukraine. Russia needs nothing else, and this is not being proposed only because it is unrealistic.

“From the point of view of international law, what we are discussing now is complete absurdity. This cannot be, because there is international law, international treaties, the UN Charter, the Charter on Strategic Partnership with the United States, and the OSCE Act. They were created to ensure peace in the world. These are the rules for coexistence among countries. These are not just wish lists. These rules were written in blood after the First and Second World Wars,” Pavlo Zhovnirenko emphasizes.

According to him, Putin understands that from the standpoint of international law what he is doing is illegal, because there is the concept of aggression as a crime, and therefore he does not need international law. Trump, the expert notes, also does not need international law—he is a businessman and wants to trade, and what he is trying to conclude is not a peace treaty, but a deal. After all, he reminds us, there is Federal Law No. 3364, signed precisely by Trump, which states that it is forbidden to hand over Ukrainian territory seized by force.

“That is why Trump and Putin push aside diplomats—those who understand international law. That is why they have put developers, sons-in-law, and some incomprehensible gang in their place. And now Ukraine remains. But it turns out that Ukraine, too, is beginning to play by the rules of these Cat Basilio and Fox Alice. If Ukraine had not started playing along, it should have defended international law and immediately shut Trump up. He says that Zelensky has not read the points of the peace agreement. Let him first read his own Law No. 3364, the Budapest Memorandum, and the Charter on Strategic Partnership between Ukraine and the United States. Everything is written there,” Pavlo Zhovnirenko concludes.
