Greenland, which Trump has once again unexpectedly pulled out of his sleeve: an expert explains the U.S. territorial claims

Trump

Political strategist Mikhail Sheitelman said that Trump always remembers Greenland when other things are going badly, and that this time he has clearly not appointed a special envoy to the island by chance, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this on his blog.

According to him, Denmark’s foreign minister stated that Trump’s decision to appoint a special envoy indicates an unchanged interest in Greenland, and added that the United States should show respect for the territorial integrity of the kingdom. Thus, he emphasizes, the U.S. is once again reminding everyone that Greenland is not for sale.

“But why did I suddenly remember Greenland? The most popular dish in Greenland is, of course, herring. I think this is pure herring right now. Red herring. There is such an expression in English. A red herring is something you use to distract attention. You take a red herring, wave it around, and everyone goes, ‘Oh, what’s that red herring?’ And it seems to me that Greenland, which Trump has once again unexpectedly pulled out of his sleeve, is exactly that—a red herring,” Mikhail Sheitelman explains.

According to the expert, first, Trump is using Greenland to distract everyone from the Epstein files; second, from the failure of peace negotiations; and more broadly, from the results of his presidency on the international stage over the past year. Moreover, he reminds us, Trump began his term with Greenland as well: as soon as he failed to end the Russian-Ukrainian war within 24 hours, he immediately moved on to “capturing” Greenland, and right away we, Rutte, and indeed the whole world shifted our attention to the Danish island.

“As the old Greenlandic proverb goes: ‘If you are born in Greenland, it’s better to live in a remote coastal province.’ That’s Trump’s trick. Greenland should make us wary. If they’ve pulled out Greenland, it means they’re trying to distract us,” Mikhail Sheitelman concludes.
