“Trump Will Bargain”: Expert Assesses Whether Peace Will Come to Ukraine in 2026

Political analyst Vitalii Kulyk assessed the prospects of Trump’s peace plan and explained that it would ultimately oblige Ukraine to hold elections, reduce the intensity of the war, but would not bring lasting peace, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this on the program “Vilnyi Mediaprostir” (“Free Media Space”).
According to the program’s guest, he views elections positively and believes they will take place in 2026. As the expert explains, in February—at the latest in March—we will face a situation in which the current model will no longer be able to carry the burden of conflicts that have accumulated within the political and legal system existing in the country, and there will be no other way to resolve everything except by holding elections.
“There will be pressure. The issue of holding elections in Ukraine is on the table as one of the elements of a possible package. I am not talking about peace right now. I am talking about a framework agreement that Trump will sell to his voters and to the world. He needs a ceasefire or pacification. In other words, Trump needs a big deal, similar to how he reconciled Cambodia with Thailand or Rwanda with Congo,” Vitalii Kulyk explains.
Thus, the expert notes, Trump does not need real peace—only a framework agreement, and elections will be one element of this framework agreement. According to him, Trump will push hard for this, the Americans will not back away from this plan, and Europeans will have to accept it.
“I predict that we may get a framework agreement. We may see a reduction in intensity, but there will be no final peace—this is in the interests of both Russia and China. Trump may also turn a blind eye to this. After all, did he reach a framework agreement? He did. Did the intensity decrease a bit? It did. And the fact that the offensive continues, that hostilities continue… well, it’s not a threat of nuclear war. In the end, a new front may open. Well, in Ukraine he finished it. The question is for the Europeans—how adequate they are, how ready they are to defend themselves. Therefore, in my view, Trump will try to push the domestic political aspect in Ukraine. Trump will bargain,” Vitalii Kulyk concludes.
