“Trump Is Giving Us a Chance to Win the War”: Expert Assesses the Probability of Peace in Ukraine

Military expert Oleh Starikov explained that Ukraine’s authorities lost a lot of time when it was possible to win or defeat the enemy in the war. Now Trump is giving a chance, but it is unknown how this will end, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this on his channel.

“What main problems do I see—real, fundamental problems? First, in geopolitics and in the military-political sphere, Ukraine failed to take advantage of the factor of time. The time factor existed in the spring and autumn of 2022, in the autumn of 2023, and this November. Now a light has appeared at the end of the tunnel. We will see how this will be implemented in practice. But what does this mean? It means that in 2022 we could have defeated the enemy in the war, in 2023 we could have defeated or won the war, and now Trump is giving us a chance to win the war, to exit the war having won it,” Oleh Starikov claims.

According to the expert, “defeating” and “winning” have two different meanings. To defeat, he explains, is the unconditional capitulation of the enemy, as it was in World War II, while to win is to exit the war having achieved one’s key objectives.

As for the political component, the expert notes that in the autumn of 2023 Ukraine lost its goal in the war. In 2022, such a goal still existed, but now no one can name it. According to him, the main problem can be described as follows: the leadership cannot formulate the political goals of the war, while the grassroots do not want to be forcibly mobilized.

“We are now talking about a war of liberation, a just war. We say this. Why were there no problems with volunteers before 2023? Because the people saw that the war was just, that there were goals that needed to be achieved, and they went to the enlistment offices. But the leadership did not set clear goals, and therefore got what it got through mobilization,” Oleh Starikov concluded.
