Expert on a Possible U.S. Operation Against Iran: “This Will Weaken Russia’s Strategic Positions”

Political analyst and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko said that the United States may support protests in Iran and carry out an operation that would lead to a change of power there and a pro-Western shift, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this on his blog.
According to the Daily Mail, the expert says, the U.S. military is increasing the number of aircraft at RAF Fairford in the United Kingdom, from where they have traditionally been deployed to the Middle East. In addition, he adds, according to reports from Middle Eastern media, the U.S. 101st Airborne Division has been redeployed to Erbil in Iraqi Kurdistan, and Delta Force special operations units have been repositioned along the Iraqi-Iranian border.
“There are three branches of power in Iran. The Council of Ayatollahs is the religious authority headed by Ayatollah Khamenei. The secular власти are the president and the government. The military power is the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The weakest link among them is the secular one. Therefore, in order to give protesters a chance to achieve change, the United States may be considering the option of removing Khamenei. And the charges against him, I believe, would be for strikes against Israel, for the crackdown on protesters, and so on. The second option is to prevent the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps from seizing power in Iran. Accordingly, this is how the United States is preparing for two possible operations,” Oleksandr Musiienko explains.
He also notes that The Times recently wrote that Khamenei had reached preliminary agreements with Russia about fleeing in the event of a deterioration in the security situation in Iran—apparently closer to Yanukovych.
“Most likely, the United States may be preparing precisely for limited operations in order, at the final stage, to support protesters and prevent the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps from taking power. Various scenarios are possible, but the situation around Iran is becoming increasingly tense. If changes in Iran are aimed at rapprochement with the West, the country could more strongly enter the oil and gas market, which would lead to a decrease in the prices of these energy resources on the global market. This would weaken Russia’s strategic positions,” Oleksandr Musiienko concludes.
