“Putin is afraid”: expert explains what the Russian tanker detained by the US was carrying

Political strategist Mikhail Sheitelman said that the United States has seriously taken up enforcement of its sanctions and has begun intercepting tankers flying the Russian flag that are obviously carrying anything but oil, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this on his blog.

As the expert emphasizes, Trump has played a real naval battle with Putin, as the United States detained a tanker sailing under the Russian flag. Meanwhile, Putin, he notes, has disappeared, because he has to explain something to someone — and has nothing to explain.

“Why has Putin disappeared? Because, of course, Putin is afraid. Not afraid that we’ll take him out with drones, as Peskov explains. He is now literally afraid of everyone around him. He simply has nothing to explain, nothing to say, nothing to do. What is he supposed to do? They are demanding decisive steps from him. And what steps? He sent a submarine there, and the submarine, through its periscope, watched helicopters descend and seize the Russian tanker,” Mikhail Sheitelman states.

In Russia, he says, State Duma deputies declared that American boats should be sunk in response, that US actions constitute piracy, that the military doctrine allows the use of nuclear weapons, that the operation against the tanker is part of the West’s preparations for a major war, and that preemptive strikes on Europe’s military infrastructure should be carried out. Nevertheless, the expert notes, Zakharova realized that things had become truly frightening and decided not to threaten anyone, but only to demand that the crew be returned to Russia. However, he adds, the White House has already responded that the crew will be tried for violating US sanctions.

“But of course, the main thing was never said out loud. Why did the entire coast guard chase some tanker from Venezuela all the way to Iceland? And seize this tanker right in front of a Russian submarine? And even send aircraft loaded with helicopters? Aircraft loaded with helicopters — that’s like a squid stuffed with shrimp. A plane loaded with helicopters flew in specifically to seize the tanker. And of course, none of this would have happened if it were just carrying some Venezuelan oil. It’s obvious that the tanker was packed to the brim with something completely different. Either it was weapons, or terrorists themselves, or Russian troops, or, most likely, those very chemical substances for which Trump officially launched a war and of whose distribution he accused Maduro,” Mikhail Sheitelman asserts.
