“Another plus Trump has scored for himself”: an expert explains why the U.S. threatened Greenland

Political strategist Mikhail Sheitelman explained why Trump suddenly decided to lift tariffs on Europe over its stance on Greenland, and what the whole story with the Danish island was really about, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this on his blog.
“So basically, the guy went to Davos to demand Greenland from the Europeans—and everyone told him to get lost. Everyone he met with brushed him off. The Danes didn’t even show up. He says, ‘I need a meeting with the Danes.’ The Danes replied, ‘We’re not coming at all, we’re not going to discuss this.’ And he backed down in literally a second. That’s it, the tariffs are withdrawn. Boom. And, as always, he says that everything had already been settled,” Mikhail Sheitelman comments.
Some people, the expert notes, believe that Rutte is a genius, because it was after talking to him that Trump abandoned the tariffs. Maybe, he muses, Rutte really is a genius, but Trump скорее latched onto that conversation because he couldn’t just say that the music inspired him not to occupy Greenland. Then, the expert continues, Trump announced that negotiations on an agreement would take place, even though Denmark has no intention of negotiating anything, and that Rubio, Vance, and Witkoff would be in charge of them.
In other words, he explains, Witkoff—who is already responsible for Hamas, Iran, Azerbaijan and Armenia, and Russia—will now also be responsible for Greenland. Overall, the expert reflects, Witkoff is some kind of genius who appears once every few thousand years: we’ve never seen someone like this before—a person with no education, a questionable biography, some small-time crook, appointed to settle all the wars in the world simultaneously and, in his spare time, buy Greenland.
“There is, of course, one more plus that Trump has earned for himself, besides a future Nobel Prize for stopping the war between the United States and Denmark—some unknown people made money on the stock market during this time. When Trump imposed tariffs on European countries last weekend, effectively starting a tariff war over Greenland, the U.S. stock market crashed. When he lifted the tariffs, the market went back up. And, as always, there turned out to be some relative—maybe the husband of one of his daughters—who made a real killing on it,” Mikhail Sheitelman concludes.
