“They simply had to agree with the Americans”: expert says the U.S. has begun pressuring Russia in negotiations

Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko said that Russia agreed to negotiations in the UAE without any concessions from Ukraine due to U.S. pressure — and that Trump has not even applied full pressure yet, Politeka reports.
He said this on his blog.
According to the expert, when staff propagandist Zarubin asked Peskov about the negotiations, Peskov replied that the United States is pressing to speed up the process, which is why they are forced to meet with the Ukrainian delegation despite existing disagreements. And, Musiienko emphasizes, the U.S. has not yet fully leveraged its influence.
“The U.S. could at the very least provide us with Tomahawk missiles, threaten Russia’s oil production, refining, and export capabilities. That would be extremely powerful, as would sanctions that could finally be imposed — those proposed by Lindsey Graham. That would apply real pressure. I think we would reach the parameters of a peace agreement under which Russia would have to move toward compromises and concessions much faster,” Oleksandr Musiienko asserts.
As noted by Mark Galeotti, a well-known columnist for The Times, the expert emphasizes that Trump is also unpredictable for Russia — favor can quickly turn into anger. Initially, he notes, the Trump administration wanted to take the path of least resistance and pressure Ukraine, but we turned out to be a tough nut to crack: the army is repelling attacks, energy workers are doing their jobs, and society remains united despite all the hardships and the approach of a humanitarian crisis.
“He cites a quote from a well-informed insider in Russian foreign policy who says: ‘We initially hoped to obtain some commitments regarding territorial concessions, but in the end, we simply had to agree with the Americans.’ That is, Russia wanted to go to the negotiations in the Emirates on the condition that Ukraine was already ready for territorial concessions. That’s what they wanted — but it didn’t work out that way. They were forced to go anyway because the Americans are applying pressure,” Oleksandr Musiienko concludes.
