Behind-the-Scenes Diplomacy: Expert Assesses Whether Ukraine Could Still Receive Tomahawks

Tomahawk Missiles

Political analyst and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko explained how behind-the-scenes diplomacy works in Ukraine’s favor and assessed whether the issue could ultimately lead to Tomahawk missiles and real pressure on Russia, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this on his blog.

According to the expert, Kyiv Post interviewed Dan Rice, president of American University Kyiv and former adviser to Commander-in-Chief Syrskyi, who met in the United States with Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. Importantly, Musiienko emphasizes, Rice was a behind-the-scenes architect of previous efforts aimed at obtaining U.S. approval for cluster munitions and ATACMS missiles, and now he believes the time has come for something bolder — in particular, Tomahawk missiles, for which, incidentally, there are ground-based Typhon launch systems.

“If Putin does not agree to peace, there is a high probability that Trump will approve the delivery of Tomahawks. It’s interesting whether Trump was thinking about Tomahawks when he hung his portrait with Putin from Alaska in the White House, which media representatives noticed. But nothing can be ruled out. Russians, by the way, are also afraid of the unpredictability of the American leader. Dan Rice — as we can see — represents this kind of behind-the-scenes diplomacy. And that’s very good. He has connections, he has contacts,” Oleksandr Musiienko comments.

In addition, the expert adds, Senator Lindsey Graham has also recently mentioned Tomahawk missiles, and this, too, is not accidental. In his view, the United States wants to undermine Russia’s negotiating position and not speak to Russia using only incentives; there must also be some form of a stick, so Tomahawks will be used informationally.

“But this is a phased process. It does not mean that Typhon systems and Tomahawks will appear tomorrow, or that they will appear at all. It is a constant demonstration to Russia that the United States can help Ukraine. Next, for example, there may be visits by Ukrainian military professionals and specialists to the U.S. for familiarization and study of the situation. And then, accordingly, other stages — in order to keep them constantly under pressure, and eventually the transfer of these missiles may also be possible. I wouldn’t rule anything out here,” Oleksandr Musiienko explains.
