Midterm elections and the desire for a quick victory: an expert assessed whether the United States will really withdraw from peace negotiations

Political analyst and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko explained why Witkoff and Kushner will not be present at the November 1 talks, as Rubio stated, and assessed what this means for the peace track, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this on his blog.
“I think that in this way Rubio is trying to speed up events, proceeding from the fact that the United States has midterm elections this year. Polls show that MAGA voters increasingly believe that America needs a foreign-policy success and a victory in a war—whether over Iran, Greenland, or Cuba. Obviously, Trump has energized his voters with the kidnapping of Maduro; they want a continuation. The United States needs a foreign-policy success, and a quick one. That is why Rubio is making such statements—to essentially say: ‘Think faster, or the U.S. may not even show up in the process going forward.’ Although the United States will be in the process; it is not withdrawing from it, otherwise Rubio would not be talking about supporting security guarantees,” Oleksandr Musiienko explains.
In addition, he emphasizes, strategically the United States does not need a strengthening of Russia and China due to a failure in Ukraine, due to the coming to power here of pro-Russian politicians, as in Georgia, due to further destabilization of Europe, or due to the displacement of American interests. And for China, the expert notes, Taiwan is only the completion of a civil war; the real goal is a land-based empire—hence the “One Belt, One Road” initiative. The United States understands this.
Thus, he concludes, the United States is trying to hang over the plan and apply pressure with the possibility of withdrawing from the negotiation process in order to speed it up and to show that there are prospects and that talks with the Russians are necessary.
“So we are waiting and watching February 1. Much can still change; other American representatives may go. And if Witkoff and Kushner do not go, our representatives will act based on the situation that develops. This does not mean that Ukraine’s position changes in any way. It continues to proceed from the fact that there must be security first, and then all subsequent points,” Oleksandr Musiienko concludes.
