“India Is Turning Westward”: Expert Explains What Russia Will Lose

Trump

Political analyst and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko assessed the consequences for the Kremlin if India indeed turns toward the West, abandons Russian oil, and trades with the EU and the United States, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this on his blog.

According to the expert, following talks with Modi, Trump stated that India agreed to completely abandon Russian oil and increase purchases from the United States, potentially including Venezuelan oil. He also adds that, at Modi’s request, Trump immediately agreed to a trade deal providing for tariff reductions and the elimination of non-tariff barriers for India.

“Well, let’s see what happens. It’s good if India truly stops buying Russian oil. That means reduced revenues for the Russian budget. But what’s also important is that Trump lowered tariffs. India is making a turn toward the West,” Oleksandr Musiienko emphasizes.

The expert also recalls that the EU and India recently concluded a major trade agreement, negotiations for which lasted about 20 years, and now the United States is also lowering tariffs. In his view, the U.S. would also like to enter India’s arms market and push Russia out, as Russia has traditionally dominated there.

“This is the kind of turn India is making toward the West. And additionally, most likely, the Americans are interested in relocating and moving certain production facilities and factories from China to India. I hope that this turn toward the West will break India’s dependence on and cooperation with Russia, both in oil and in weapons. And this is, of course, a minus for Russia’s strategic position in the region and a loss of income. This really matters,” Oleksandr Musiienko explains.
